Support Program for Beginning Teachers and Pre-Service Teacher Candidates
First 3, an initiative proposed by Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and the Cato College of Education at UNC Charlotte, supports pre-service teacher candidates prior to graduation and beginning teachers in their first three years of teaching. First 3 blends professional development with social/networking/informal mentoring to support early career educators during what research identifies as the most vulnerable period of their work.
For pre-service teacher candidates bi-weekly one-hour professional development workshops are offered during both academic semesters. These workshops, Teacher Toolbox Tuesdays (TTT), focus on various education topics not covered during coursework.
For begining teachers, professional development workshops are offered once a month during both academic semesters. These workshops, Teacher Toolbox Tuesdays for Teachers (TTTT), focus on various topics including classroom managment, active engagement strategies, and culturally responsive teaching.
